RMD GEARS FOR A COMEBACK TO NOLLYWOOD For over a year now, not much has been heard from one of the top male ranking actors in Nigeria , Richard Mofe Damijo, fondly called RMD. This is because he was appointed as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, but was later re-appointed as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development following an executive re-shufflement by the state governor sometime last year.
With this new position, the Veteran actor has been busy with state and political affairs and thus the reason for his absence from acting which brought him to limelight.
Despite his break from the movie industry due to a temporary relocation to Asaba, the Delta State capital, as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, actor- turned-politician, Richard Mofe Damijo, we learnt, has refused to be relegated to the background as it concerns his first love, acting.
Sources revealed that the thorough-bred actor is gearing for a comeback and recently appeared in a movie alongside Desmond Elliot.
Well, this latest development thus seems to explain the fact that talent cannot be suffocated with the want of material things of life as it must somehow find expression in some other form. All the political power and affluence that comes with his new position has not been able to hold him back from his passion ; acting.
Some critics might say, why should a whole Commissioner be acting or what else is he looking for Well, my answer to such critics is that passion or love for something especially in the field of Arts cannot be suppressed, somehow it always finds a way of expressing itself.
Moreover if legendary highlife Crooner, Sir Victor Uwaifo could still perform at functions as an entertainer during his tenure as Commissioner for Culture in Edo state, why can’t RMD as a commissioner also act ? Afterall acting is also part of Nigerian tourism as well as Youth and Sports Development.
A recipient of numerous awards and an inductee of the Nanet Suites Nollywood Hall of Fame, RMD has featured in over thirty movies and is today regarded as an Actor’s Actor
